 Your CUPE, SEIU-West, and SGEU bargaining committees resumed bargaining with SAHO September 5 to September 7 in Regina.

As our bargaining committee goes back in for another round of bargaining. It is important to remember what we are fighting for.  

Here are some of the people expected to take a wage cut. 

Help stop the cuts, remember to wear your buttons or stickers while in bargaining, and contact your MLA. Together we can do this. Bargaining goes until September 8.

On Wednesday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m., the CUPE Health Care Council will be holding a union town hall meeting on the telephone to discuss important bargaining updates for our members.

During the town hall, you will be able to ask questions and make comments to your bargaining committee. The session will be recorded for those unable to attend.

All you have to do to participate is answer the phone when we call or call in to the members-only line. Further details will be emailed, so please updated your contact info at www.cupesaskhcc.ca.

Dear Health Care Member:

 Your SEIU-West, CUPE, and SGEU bargaining committees met with SAHO from July 25 to August 1 in Regina. We were originally scheduled to bargain from July 25 to 27, but we worked through the weekend and into August 1 in an effort to build on momentum that we believed was being generated.

As mentioned in our most recent joint update, we presented a comprehensive proposal package to SAHO, which included a letter of understanding (LOU) on the creation of a bargaining association for all three unions and articles designed to bring us to a collective agreement.

 Your SGEU, CUPE, and SEIU-West bargaining committees met, both with our coalition partners and individually, from July 24 to July 30 (inclusive) to develop a comprehensive proposal package for SAHO in an effort to accelerate the bargaining process. The package contains common proposals and some individual union proposals.

Dear CUPE Health Care Member:

Your CUPE Bargaining Committee resumed collective bargaining with SAHO July 4-6, 2017 in Saskatoon.

CUPE told SAHO that there is absolutely no justification for the provincial government’s draconian mandate of a 3.5 per cent reduction in public sector compensation costs followed by three years of zero per cent increases. Your Bargaining Committee provided SAHO with a list of positive economic and financial indicators, most of which are highlighted by the Government of Saskatchewan’s own news releases and provincial budget.

Your CUPE Bargaining Committee resumed collective bargaining with SAHO June 13-14, 2017.

Once again, CUPE strongly urged SAHO to reconsider the sweeping list of concessions they have tabled in this round of bargaining. Your Bargaining Committee told the employer that SAHO’s package is not respectful of our members and that it would take us backwards, not forward. 

Dear CUPE Health Care Member:

Your CUPE Bargaining Committee resumed collective bargaining with SAHO May 30-31 and June 1, 2017 in Regina.

As reported in our last communique, SAHO tabled a common proposal package with CUPE, SEIU-West, and SGEU which contains a sweeping list of concessions and takeaways.

SAHO’s bargaining package sets out a four-year collective agreement that includes an overall reduction in compensation costs of 4.09 percent. This includes a wage rollback of one percent in 2017-2018 and three consecutive years of zero percent increases. SAHO was clear with the Provider Coalition that the wage reduction in the first year could be higher if SAHO’s monetary concessions are removed from the table. Dear CUPE Health Care Member:

Your CUPE Bargaining Committee and our Provider Coalition partners commenced collective bargaining with SAHO on May 25, 2017 in Regina.

SAHO tabled a common proposal package with CUPE, SEIU-West, and SGEU. The parties then broke off to their individual tables, where each union tabled its own proposal package with a separate SAHO bargaining committee.

We can confirm that we are in for a very tough round of bargaining. SAHO’s proposal package includes numerous monetary concessions that are reflective of the provincial government’s mandate of a 3.5 per cent reduction in public sector compensation costs for 2017-2018, followed by three years of consecutive zero per cent increases.

The CUPE Health Care Council and our Provider Coalition partners met with representatives of SAHO on May 3, 2017 to finalize the bargaining logistics meeting that was cut short on March 7.

The following dates have been confirmed for collective bargaining: May 25, 30, 31, June 1, 13, and 14.

Dear CUPE Health Care Member:

The CUPE Health Care Council and our provider coalition partners met with representatives of the Ministry of Health and SAHO on April 12, 2017 to discuss the possible establishment of a bargaining association to help stabilize labour relations with the transition to one provincial health authority (PHA).

The coalition provided the Ministry and SAHO representatives with a document outlining the principles for a health services providers bargaining association which would encompass CUPE, SEIU, and SGEU.

April 11, 2017 - Dear CUPE Health Care Member:

On March 28, 2017, the provincial government introduced Bill 53 – The Provincial Health Authority Act and Bill 54 – The Provincial Health Authority Consequential Amendment Act, 2017 in the Saskatchewan Legislature.

Your CUPE Health Care Council is pleased that Bill 53 makes clear that agreements, including collective agreements, with existing health regions will continue to apply to the provincial health authority (PHA). Also, any “claim, cause of action or proceeding” brought against an existing regional health authority, such as a grievance, will continue against the PHA.

March 9, 2017

Dear CUPE Health Care Member:

CUPE, SEIU, and SGEU met with SAHO on March 7 to discuss bargaining logistics (meeting frequency, locations, venues, etc.), order of proceedings (common table versus individual union tables), and communication protocols. No bargaining proposals were exchanged at this meeting.

Unfortunately, these preliminary discussions were sidelined when the health provider unions were informed by SAHO about two hours into our meeting that Saskatchewan’s Minister of Finance would be sending a letter to the heads of all public sector unions.

Since December 2016, CUPE has been meeting regularly with our health provider coalition partners – SEIU and SGEU – to coordinate our approach to the upcoming round of bargaining with SAHO.
